If there are two things people are always interested in are political figures and royals. And if you mix the two, the interest is bound to double. Perhaps that’s why people have been latching on to the idea of Barron Trump, US President Donald Trump’s youngest son, perhaps marrying into a royal family. But is there any truth to the suggestion?
The answer is no, but that doesn’t mean the joke didn’t take off. It all started when a satire account on X suggested that the way to “solve” Donald Trump’s desire for Greenland was for his son, Barron, to marry Princess Isabella of Denmark. That way, Greenland could be given to the United States as a dowry.
If it sounds completely unserious, it’s because it is.
US President Trump has long expressed a desire for Greenland to be part of the U.S. Greenland is a semi-autonomous Danish territory that is rich in minerals. It is also the home of the U.S. space base Pituffik.
Trump’s desire to acquire Greenland has always been taken as somewhat of a joke, and received strong pushback from Denmark. Both the US and Denmark are part of NATO. Article 5 of the NATO Treaty states that the alliance considers an attack on one to be an assault on all. Still, talk about the United States possibly seizing Greenland has intensified since a US military operation in Venezuela resulted in the Venezuelan president being removed from his country and taken to the US to stand trial.
Princess Isabella, the Countess of Monpezat, is the second child of King Frederik X and Queen Mary. She is the second in line of succession to the Danish throne after her older brother, Crown Prince Christian.
All these suggestions about Barron Trump’s life come amid reports that his mother, Melania, has been very concerned about Barron’s privacy or lack thereof. After multiple members of her husband‘s club, Mar-a-Lago, were caught taking photos of Barron at a Christmas party without his consent, a source told People in a report published on January 7 that the first lady of the United States “would go to the ends of the earth to protect” her son.
“Melania definitely protects her son against anyone taking videos or shots of him that would put him at a disadvantage or portray him in a bad way,” the insider said. “She would put her foot down if necessary but nothing stressful like that has happened.”
Rob Shuter had recently claimed on his Substack that Melania threatened to have Mar-a-Lago memberships revoked if people were caught recording Barron. “Melania made it very clear that Barron’s privacy is non-negotiable,” a source told Shuter. “Anyone caught filming or taking pictures would face immediate consequences, including potential banning from the club.”
People’s sources suggested it hasn’t gotten to this point, but that Melania would still “protect” Barron if anything were to happen. “Melania would go to the ends of the earth to protect Barron from any evil intentions from people,” the source said. “But nothing like this happened during the holidays.”
