BREAKING: Insider Says Craig Melvin’s Company Causing Huge Backlash

Craig Melvin has worn many hats when it comes to his work with Today. That said, he has also pursued other ventures. In fact, insiders have claimed that his new company could get him in trouble. This also comes out after Melvin spoke about his company and its background.

Craig Melvin First Joined Today As A News Anchor Back In 2018

Melvin first joined NBC with an affiliate station in South Carolina. For many, he is best known for his work with Today.

In 2018, Melvin became a co-host of Today‘s third hour, becoming a permanent host the following year. Early in 2025, he also became a co-anchor for the show’s first and second hours.

Melvin has also sought other ventures, including his scented candle company, Melvin Made. These American-made candles come in two different sizes, a 10-ounce and a 16-ounce version.

Early on, five different scents were announced: Southern Office, Lindsay, Hilton Head, Pink Jasmine and Betty Jo. In addition, there is also said to be a sixth seasonal scent: Fireside Frankincense. However, sources have claimed that Melvin’s new venture has not been without backlash.

Melvin Himself Recently Shared One Of The Goals He Hopes To Accomplish With His Candles

According to an insider, NBC hasn’t been supportive of its news talent selling personal merchandise. Reportedly, there is concern that this could blur the lines between journalism and lifestyle branding.

As one source shared, “Tom Brokaw and Matt Lauer would never sell candles. Back in the day, this kind of thing wasn’t just frowned upon at NBC News – it was banned.” Another source shared, “It feels like the show has shifted from journalism to influencer culture.”

These claims have since been reported on by a variety of outlets. As previously reported, insiders shared these claims with The National Enquirer.

However, as Radar Online recently reported, this comes out despite Melvin Made’s proceeds going towards cancer research. Melvin himself also recently spoke about the candle sales helping charities that helped his own loved ones.

Speaking with People, Melvin shared, “I’m really excited about it. The goal is to sell these things and raise awareness about a variety of cancers to get people talking about screenings, listening to your body and talking about family histories. This is another tool to do that.”

At the time, Melvin also shared how the candles honored members of his family. As he continued, “One of the candle fragrances is actually named after my younger brother Ryan’s late daughter, Jasmine. It’s a nod to her, but also to him introducing me to the concept of candle making years ago.”
