David Muir reported on a new note sent to the Guthrie family

World News Tonight anchor David Muir shared details of a chilling new ransom message that was sent to the Guthrie family, which might be tied to their mother’s disappearance.

On Sunday, Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was reported missing from her residence in Catalina Foothills, Arizona. She was last seen on Saturday evening and then declared missing the next day after failing to appear at her church service. Authorities believe that the mother of the Today Show host, Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her residence while she was sleeping.

During the ABC broadcast on Friday, Murir shared that authorities are looking into the legitimacy of a new ransom note. Six days have passed as of now since her disappearance on Sunday.

This ransom note was reportedly sent to a local TV station in Tuscon, a city in Arizona.

“We begin tonight with the breaking news in the desperate search of Nancy Guthrie,” he started off.

He mentioned that Savannah and her family “is now aware of the new communication” sent from the potential kidnapper. Authorities “are actively inspecting the information provided” in the new message.

The segment ended with, “Hostage negotiators are standing by.”

Muir’s segment also explained how he believed this new note differed from the prior ransom message sent to the Guthrie family.

On Tuesday, TMZ reported that it received an alleged ransom note demanding payment for Guthrie’s release. According to the outlet, the note was sent that morning and claimed Guthrie was being held by her abductor, who sought an enormous payout in Bitcoin.

The alleged note reportedly demands a very specific and substantial amount of Bitcoin in exchange for Guthrie’s return.

The requested sum was said to be in the millions. There were instructions included for the cryptocurrency to be sent to a specific Bitcoin address.

The outlet reported that the address was verified on the Bitcoin platform and that the sender also included a deadline for receiving the money, “or else.”
