Lara Spencer has worn many hats in her career, but is best known to many for her work with Good Morning America. Recently, however, she had tragic news to share with fans on social media. Since then, fans, as well as other ABC alumni, have been sharing their condolences.

Lara Spencer First Joined Good Morning America In 1999

Spencer is known for her work with ABC’s Good Morning America, previously working as a co-anchor as well as a contributor. She also serves as a correspondent for Nightline and ABC News.

The New York native has also been involved with other outlets, from hosting Antiques Roadshow to Flea Market Flip. Additionally, she served as a contributor for CBS’ The Early Show.

Recently, Spencer shared tragic news with fans. She has lost her beloved mother, Carolyn von Seelen, who passed away at the age of 85.

Spencer shared the news on Instagram, where she wrote, “If you were lucky enough to meet my mom. You know that smile that lit up every room she walked into. What you might not have seen at first glance was her courage, resilience, endless optimism, deep faith, and boundless love for her family.”

Spencer noted that her mother was surrounded by loved ones during her passing on February 13th, noting she’d get a good kick out of it due to the taboo date. She finished her post by sharing, “We love you always and forever, mom.”

At this time, a cause of death has not been shared. However, Lara previously stated on social media that her mother had undergone cancer treatment after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, identified as glioblastoma, in 2023.

Lara’s Co-Workers Paid Tribute In The Comments

Many of Spencer’s ABC colleagues took to the comments to share their condolences. Ginger Zee commented:

• “So sorry Lara and sending you and the entire family so much love and peace.”

Rebecca Jarvis also wrote, “Sending you and your family so much love, Lara. I feel so fortunate to have met her at GMA – a truly special woman with a transcendent spark. May her memory be a blessing.”

News talent from other outlets also offered words of comfort. Today‘s Jenna Bush Hager also shared, “Sending you love Lara! I know how much you adored her.”

Taking to the comments, other fans wrote similar tributes. As one fan wrote, “So very sorry…mothers truly are the very best. You obviously loved yours a great deal. May your wonderful memories help you through.”
