Hoosiers QB Alberto Mendoza Drops Bombshell New Team Announcement After Transfer Portal Stunner Post-National Championship Glory

Alberto Mendoza has reportedly committed to a new school in the wake of Indiana’s national title win.

Alberto, the younger brother of star quarterback Fernando Mendoza, entered the transfer portal shortly after the Hoosiers beat the Miami Hurricanes on Monday night.

According to ON3, he’s headed to Georgia Tech.

“Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Alberto Mendoza has committed to transfer to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, On3’s Pete Nakos and Hayes Fawcett learned,” the outlet notes. “He is the younger brother of Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.”

Alberto Mendoza Wouldn’t Start For Indiana In 2026

The younger Mendoza was his brother’s backup during the season, but didn’t get much time on the field. He made the most of his opportunities, however.

The three-star QB passed for 286 yards, also rushing for 190 yards, registering six total touchdowns.

He may have had an opportunity to start for Indiana next season. His brother is headed to the NFL, and Tom Brady was at Monday’s game scouting for the Raiders. But it became apparent that would not be the case after the Hooisers landed transfer Josh Hoover from TCU.

Hoover joins Indiana after putting up some gaudy numbers for the Horned Frogs. He recorded 9,629 passing yards, 71 touchdowns and 33 interceptions during his time with the program.

Alberto Mendoza wasted little time finding a new home. He’s expected to slot right into Brent Key’s offensive system, given that he’s a threat with his feet.

As for Fernando, he’s likely to be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. He will make the step up as a rare Heisman national title winner and is the top QB available in this year’s class.
