UNACCEPTABLE: Olympics fans rage over “annoying” commentators — viewers beg them to “just shut up” as backlash explodes

The Winter Olympics is officially underway, but viewers at home were distracted by the commentators hosting the live broadcast of the show as they begged them to ‘shut the f— up’

Viewers of the Winter Olympics are slamming the broadcast’s hosts for continuing to talk over the Opening Ceremony.

Just as the ceremony kicked off, hundreds of dancers in elaborate costumes took the floor to perform breathtaking choreography in celebration of the games’ kick off. But even during the most quiet and intense moments of the performance, the host could be heard sharing his input and even cracking jokes.

One person took to X to point out the disturbance, saying, “I ask this every Olympics opening ceremony, but is there a feed of it without the annoying f—ing commentary?”

“Will someone please tell the commentators to shut the f— up? We’re 10 seconds in and I already hate them,” another said. “F—, these commentators can’t get a damn thing right #OpeningCeremony,” one more wrote.

A fourth wrote, “why is it necessary to talk over the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics? Let us just watch it and stop interrupting?”

Viewers were not happy with the commentators speaking while Italian ballet dancers performed

“Watching the #WinterOlympics opening ceremony, and again, I encourage. @peacock to offer an option without the commentary. Nothing against the commentators; subtitles could introduce the segments. Just would like to enjoy the sights and sounds without the intrusions,” one more said.

And another person begged, “Please limit your commentary to topics directly related to sports.”

Elsewhere in the opening ceremony, Mariah Carey performed a version of Domenico Modugno’s popular 1950s classic Nel blu, dipinto di blu, which is better known as Volare, but some viewers claimed she “ruined” the event.

The legendary pop singer was hit with a string of hate online accusing her of lip-syncing throughout the show.

On X, one viewer wrote, “Mariah Carey so obviously lip syncing. Wasn’t tryna hide it a single bit. Ruined what has been a decent opening ceremony thus far.”

Another critic added, “Mariah Carey is performing like Frankie Valli. Lip syncing and stiff.”

And a third asked, “if you pay a singer like Mariah Carey to mime you are essentially just paying for their face and presence, right?”

Someone else chimed in, “Great opening so far! But what’s wrong with Mariah Carey?! Very bad lip syncing there!”

Meanwhile, Today show host Savannah Guthrie was set to host the opening ceremony in Milan, but pulled out after her 84-year-old mother Nancy was abducted from her home on Saturday, January 31.

NBC confirmed on February 3 that Guthrie would no longer be heading to Italy as the Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the disappearance of her mom.

“Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family. They continue to have our full support,” Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC Olympics Production, said in a statement.

“We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented commentators who will step in and fill these roles. Mary is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators ever and a master storyteller.”

Instead, sportscaster and former professional tennis player Mary Carillo took her place at the ceremony.
