In the early morning hours of Thursday, February 19, Fox News‘ show, Fox & Friends, was paused to bring viewers an update on the disgraced former Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of King Charles III and the eighth in line to the British throne. As hosts Ainsley Earhardt, Brian Kilmeade, and Lawrence Jones were airing their episode, reporter Chanley Painter interrupted with a report that Andrew had been arrested.
“Police say they took the brother of King Charles into custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Officers reportedly arrived at the royal estate in Eastern England earlier this morning to make the arrest of the former Prince, who turns 66 years old today,” Painter said. This development came shortly before King Charles broke his silence on Andrew’s arrest, saying, “The law must take its course.”
The reporter continued, “Andrew is in custody, and investigators are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”
She also read out the authorities’ statement about the arrest, which did not specifically name Andrew. Painter added that the offense carries a sentence of up to life in prison.
