RYAN Seacrest has shared the strict rule that Celebrity Wheel of Fortune had to implement for future contestants following Derek Hough’s appearance.
Derek was a player on the game show during the September 29th episode.
He competed alongside fellow Dancing With the Stars judge Bruno Tonioli and DWTS pro dancer Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy in a friendly game for charity.
However, things got a little too rowdy during a commercial break, prompting the enforcement of a new rule.
Ryan, who took over as host of the show this season following Pat Sajak‘s retirement, detailed an incident that happened involving Derek during an interview with USA Today, published on Monday.
The TV personality revealed that Derek, at one point, jumped on the show’s 2,400-pound wheel, forcing a new rule that they thought would go without saying.

“In the commercial break, [he] was jumping on the center of the wheel and having Bruno spin it, much like the top of a cake ornament,” Ryan recalled.
“We did say, ‘Please don’t do that. That would break it, and there’s only one of those wheels. If that breaks, we have a real problem.’
“We had to sort of say, ‘Stick to the ledge,’” the American Idol host added.
A SWEET BOND
Ryan, who has a long history with Derek, also noted that his DWTS guests were “very physical, and that makes for fun.”
Ryan dated Derek’s sister and DWTS host, Julianne Hough, from 2010 to 2013.
“Knowing someone, or being friends, is definitely helpful,” Ryan told the outlet about his and Derek’s playfulness onscreen.
“You can kind of tease them more than somebody you don’t know.”
Celebrity Wheel of Fortune airs on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. EST and has a rotation of famous guests.
WHAT’S GOING ON?
The show sparked concern earlier this month when multiple tapings were rescheduled and later canceled at the last minute.
The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed that two tapings scheduled for October 9 were abruptly canceled out of the blue.
A source revealed that the move was “extremely rare” and future tapings were expected to resume as usual.
Ryan co-hosts the show with Vanna White, though a separate insider said the filming delay had “nothing to do” with either and was simply a production shift.
Fans have repeatedly expressed worries about Ryan, given his seemingly frail appearance lately.
Ryan is in his second season as host of Wheel of Fortune, following original host Pat’s departure after over 40 years on the job.
