Savannah Guthrie’s mother was first reported missing in Tucson, Arizona, over the past weekend. Recently, news has come out that an imposter has been arrested by the FBI in regard to the case.

An FBI Agent Shared An Update To The Case During A Recent Press Conference

News broke out on Sunday, February 1, 2026, that Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today alum Savannah Guthrie, had gone missing in Arizona. She was reportedly last seen the previous.

Since then, Savannah has taken a break from her work on Today as she aids in the search. She also recently took to social media to thank fans for their support and provide a united front with siblings Annie and Camron.

FBI Phoenix Special Agent in Charge Heith Janke spoke at a press conference concerning the case on Thursday, February 5. At the time, it was shared that someone posing as being involved with the kidnapping had been arrested. Janke shared, “We have made one arrest related to an imposter ransom demand, and a complaint will be presented to a magistrate judge later today.

The Today Alum & Her Siblings Also Recently Released A Statement On Social Media

Janke continued, “You will get more on that from the FBI and our U.S. Attorney’s office here in Arizona when it becomes available.” He continued, “There’s no evidence to connect this to Nancy’s case. It was someone that was trying to profit off it.”

Janke also issued a warning to anyone who is planning to claim that they are involved to earn a $50,000 reward. He noted that those who would do so would be thoroughly investigated and held accountable for their actions.

Noting the situation, Janke warned, “You still have the time to do the right thing before this becomes a worse, much worse scenario for you.” As noted by Us Weekly, he also pointed out that any decision concerning ransom money will ultimately be determined by the Guthrie family.

As previously reported, the Guthrie siblings also recently took to social media. During the moment, Savannah shared that the family was aware of a ransom note that was being discussed in the media. However, she noted that images could be manipulated and called on those involved with her mother’s disappearance to reach out to the family directly.

 

Savannah also shared, “And we pray without ceasing… We love you, Mom.” The post was also simply captioned, “Bring her home.”
