White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded with tongue-in-cheek humor when asked if Trump believes aliens are real

Karoline Leavitt fielded an unusual question this week.
The White House Press Secretary engaged in an unexpectedly lighthearted exchange with a reporter on Wednesday when questioned about extraterrestrials during a press briefing. Typically known for her pointed, adversarial responses to journalists, Karoline was caught off guard by Newsmax correspondent Mike Carter, who asked the 28-year-old whether President Donald Trump, 79, believes aliens exist.
The inquiry followed remarks by former President Barack Obama, who ignited online discussion after addressing aliens on a podcast. “A speech on aliens would be news to me,” she responded, before noting: “That sounds very exciting, though.”

Leavitt then wrapped up her response, stating, “That would be of great interest to me personally, and I’m sure all of you in this room, and apparently former President Obama too. So we’ll keep you posted on that,” accompanied by a wry grin.
The exchange rapidly circulated online, with Leavitt subsequently sharing the footage on Instagram. The resurgent interest in extraterrestrials began after Obama took part in a rapid-fire Q&A with podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen.
During that segment, he was asked point-blank, “Are aliens real?” to which he answered, “They’re real. But I haven’t seen them, and they’re not being kept in Area 51.”
The comment generated substantial social media discussion, leading Obama to clarify his statements days afterward. In an Instagram post on Sunday, February 15, the former president elaborated on his enigmatic remarks.
“I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention, let me clarify. Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens are low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!” he stated.
For decades, public fascination with extraterrestrial life and government concealment has centered on Area 51, the highly secretive Cold War-era testing site located in Nevada’s desert.
Conspiracy theories about the facility have persisted for generations, with some claiming it houses evidence of UFO encounters or alien entities.
In 2013, the Central Intelligence Agency acknowledged the facility’s existence but refuted claims regarding UFO crashes, black-eyed aliens, or staged moon landings. Subsequently released documentation officially named the 8,000-square-mile installation after years of governmental silence on the matter.
The facility has historically been utilized to test classified aircraft, including the U-2 spy plane in the 1950s and, later, the B-2 stealth bomber. Across the nation, public interest in unidentified flying objects continues to thrive.
In 2024, Congress held hearings focused on UFO encounters and whistleblower testimony regarding secret government programs. Most recently, a UFO whistleblower claimed that President Donald Trump had received briefings about classified operations and intelligence concerning extraterrestrials.
In a message posted on Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” the Republican president wrote.
Shortly afterward, administration representatives and Republican legislators voiced strong approval for the move.
