Today Fans Will Soon See A Big Change At The Network
Running in some form since 1952, Today is NBC’s morning show. The New York-based talk show is considered one of the longest-running in the United States.
Through the years, fans have seen multiple anchors host the show. In a recent episode, these hosts came together a wish someone a special goodbye.
The co-hosts of Today‘s third hour recently dedicated Friday’s past episode to fellow host Sheinelle Jones. This was because she was set to take on a new role: the permanent co-host of the fourth hour alongside Jenna Bush Hager.
Jones is expected to take over Hoda Kotb’s previous role on the show. Ever since Kotb had left back on January 10, 2025, Bush Hager worked alongside a rotating number of guest co-hosts, with the show rebranded as Today with Jenna & Friends.
Jones is expected to become a permanent co-host on the show on January 12, 2026, around a year after Kotb’s departure. After this, the show will be titled, Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.
During the episode, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and Dylan Dreyer came together to give Jones a fond farewell. As Melvin explained, “We wanted to toast her. And share a few – because there have been a slew but we will share a few of our favorite moments we have had together.”

Jones promised “no crying” during the moment. However, she started to tear up as Roker began the tribute. While sharing the team was “fortunate” to know Jones, he added that they were also lucky to meet the various people in her life.
A video of Jones made in 2024, featuring various members of her family, was then shared. This included her daughter, Clara, her mother, and grandmother, and her at an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority legacy dinner.
Dreyer then noted that Jones had “become such a dear friend of mine.” She continued, adding that they were friends “from day one” and continued to be so for “years and years.”
Dreyer then shared a clip of the two from late 2018. Jones could be seen teaching Dreyer how to dance, set to Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic,” with Dreyer teaching her how to golf.
Melvin then “You are so real and authentic, on camera and off.” At the moment, he appeared to be unable to look at Jones as he fought back the tears.
Just as Jones often shared poems over the years, Melvin revealed he wrote a poem in her honor. Melvin called Jones his “sister in spirit.” He continued, calling her “a sister, a leader, so fearless and true,” also noting “three hearts” called her “Mom.” He summed things up with the line, That smile could outshine the studio’s gleam, the spark of resilience, hope and dream.”
