Kathie Lee Gifford spent eleven years working with Hoda Kotb on the fourth hour of Today. Naturally, she has a number of stories about her time on the show. Recently, Gifford opened up about a time when she actually got in trouble on the show. This eventually led to a conversation about her and Kotb’s working relationship.
Kathie Lee Gifford First Joined Today‘s Fourth Hour In March 2008
Gifford is an American television personality known for a variety of shows. From 1985 to 2000, she hosted Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee alongside Regis Philbin.
Following this, Gifford became known for co-hosting the fourth hour of NBC’s Today from 2008 to 2019, alongside Hoda Kotb. Her work with the show even earned Gifford her first Daytime Emmy. After she departed from the show, Jenna Bush Hager took over co-hosting duties, later being joined by Sheinelle Jones.
Recently, Gifford reunited with her former co-star, Hoda Kotb, during an episode of the latter’s podcast series, Making Space with Hoda Kotb. Looking back on their time on the show together, they shared a story where they had a little too much fun.
Maintaining that she tried to remain professional, Kotb reflected on preparing for the show, noting that she would normally do “all the things I was supposed to do.” Gifford took things for a turn and brought up a time when she and Kotb were banned from the Today Show‘s Plaza in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza.
Hoda Kotb Admitted Gifford’s Influence Helped Her Loosen Up
At the time, Gifford noted that she and her co-star got in trouble for “making too much noise.” That said, the ban was described as a temporary one.
Returning to her earlier sentiments, Kotb noted that she used to be more of a by-the-book journalist early in her career. In particular, she described herself as being “anchored to knowing the cards.”
However, Kotb felt that teaming up with Gifford helped her loosen up, even having fun on the job. Gifford herself felt that was the start of them becoming such a great team together. As she shared during the podcast, “That’s where the gold is. That’s when you start mining the gold.”
Now, this isn’t the first time Gifford and Kotb were known to have reunited this year. Back in January, Sheinelle Jones and Jenna Bush Hager received a surprise appearance from their predecessors on Jones’ first day on the show.
