JANAI Norman unfollowed Good Morning America on Instagram after her hasty exit from the morning show.
The anchor suggested in a statement after she was yanked off the air that the decision wasn’t mutual.
Janai has been an anchor on Good Morning America’s weekend show since 2022.
A source close to the situation told Daily Mail that the ABC decided not to renew her contract.
The anchor told fans last Friday that her time on GMA has been “cut short” – and that she wouldn’t be on the air the upcoming weekend despite not having a send-off.
“I’d hoped that we’d have more time. It’s been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job,” the TV star said.
“It has been a joy to connect with my coworkers and with viewers to help keep you informed and entertained and to create this community.
“So, it really breaks my heart that I don’t get to say goodbye. I’m so sorry that I don’t get to say goodbye. It would have been fun.”
Janai has since unfollowed GMA’s social media account, deepening the rift between the anchor and the morning show.
She shared that one positive of her unexpected career change is that she gets to spend more time with her three kids.
“I have these three young kids, and I have worked weekends their whole lives. Now they get more of me. And that is worth everything,” she said.
The journalist welcomed her youngest child, a boy, with her husband Eli in December 2023.
They are also parents of another son and a daughter, whom they’ve chosen to keep private.
Janai thanked fans for their support and apologized for her abrupt exit from the show.
“So, stay tuned! I’m sorry. I feel you,” she said.
Janai joined ABC in 2016 as a reporter, and was promoted in 2022 to an anchor position on GMA Weekend.
It’s unclear if Janai plans to stay at ABC or will be moving on to a new network.
No replacement for her has been announced at this time.
