One former host of The Today Show hit out at the LGBTQIA+ community in a new, shocking interview.

During a discussion with Tomi Lahren, former talk show host Kathie Lee Gifford took a jab at the community as she suggested that they could do with fewer letters.

The 72-year-old, who recently shared a tragic health update, said, “I don’t even know how many letters there are now. They’ve really got to stop with that. We know what you mean, you know?”

She continued, I’m not telling anybody how to live their life. I never have. I just know what Jesus said — ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ Love God first.”

Kathie went on to add that the answer to reconciling faith and standing up for gay rights comes down to one word. “That one is a four-letter word, and it’s called L-O-V-E, love,” she said.

While Kathie isn’t a fan of the added letters, each represents a different members of the community. LGBTQIA+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or sometimes questioning), intersex, asexual, and others. The “plus” represents other sexual identities, including pansexual and Two-Spirit.

Kathie previously co-hosted the fourth hour of The Today Show with Hoda Kotb for 11 years, from 2008 to April of 2019. She exited the show in December 2018 to pursue other creative projects in film and music. Jenna Bush Hager later later took over as co-host of the fourth hour following her departure.

Opening up about her choice to leave, Kathie told People, “The work that I want to do isn’t here anymore [gesturing to the studio]. She continued, “I am an artist, I’m an actress, I’m a writer, I’m a songwriter, a director now. That’s the stuff that feeds my soul and I know that I’m running out of time to do those things.”
