Robin Roberts was part of a massive Good Morning America telecast when Oscar contenders stopped by for interviews. Robin had the privilege of interviewing the multi-talented Cynthia Erivo from Wicked. Erivo was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars, and Robin had some great questions for her. However, Robin rejected one producer’s request.
Here is what Robin refused to ask Cynthia and the actress’s reaction.
Robin Roberts Won’t Ask Cynthia Erivo One Thing
Robin Roberts asked Cynthia Erivo several questions about Wicked, the Oscars, and the success of the musical movie she starred in last year. While Erivo lost out at the Oscars to Mikey Madison (Anora), her nomination was much deserved, and it was because of both her acting and singing ability in the movie.

Robin Roberts showed a trend online of Wicked fans taking to social media and trying to see if they can hit the high notes that Erivio does in the song “Defining Gravity.” When they returned to the interview, Robin said she couldn’t imagine people asking Cynthia in public, and then she paused in the middle of the question.
“I’m not going to do it, I’m not going to hit the high note, but my producer wanted me to do it, but I’m not,” Robin said. “Has it caught you off guard sometimes with people coming up to you?”
Cynthia laughed and admitted it did not catch her off guard anymore. “No, it doesn’t catch me off guard,” Cynthia said. “But, it did at first. People would just sing the war cry, and I’d be like … good. But, it does happen more and more often now and I kind of love it. It’s kind of wonderful.”
Cynthia Erivo Believes in “Defining Gravity” War Cry
Cynthia Erivo has really gotten behind the idea that the “Defining Gravuity” war cry from Wicked has become a phenomenon. She not only spoke about this to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, but she has been talking it up throughout her awards interview tour.
People have begun to speak up about the song and how it is a rallying cry for the disenfranchised. Regarding the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community, many people have held onto the lyrics from that song as a source of power. Last year, Erivo said she didn’t realize that was happening, but she has gravitated to the idea since then.
“I’ve seen it, yeah.” Erivo shared, “That’s really powerful, that’s what I wanted.”
“Defining Gravity” has joined “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in the franchise as songs with deeper meanings than most people consider. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” is a song about escaping from an unfriendly world. “Defining Gravity” is a song about choosing your path, even if no one is there to stand by you.
With the sentiment, “every deserves the chance to fly,” it is a song that people have grasped onto, and Cynthia Erivo loves to see people come up to her and show their love for the track.
