The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to looking for Nancy Guthrie after her disappearance on February 1, but they haven’t tapped a primary suspect.

Sheriff Chris Nanos admitted on February 5 that police have not yet identified a suspect regarding the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie, who was reported missing on February 1.
However, they are continuing to investigate all leads in the case after deploying a search-and-rescue team the same day as the reported disappearance. In addition, they brought in homicide investigators immediately. Now, law enforcement, including multiple agencies such as the FBI, has sworn to examine every possibility and continue their in-the-field work.
In fact, they haven’t ruled anyone out and are speaking to community members, as some worry Nancy may never be found. He said, “We’re actively looking at everybody we come across in this case. Everybody. It would be irresponsible not to talk to everybody. The Uber driver, the gardener, the pool person. Everybody – this is so cliché –, but everybody’s still a suspect in our eyes. It’s just how we look at things and think as cops.
In addition, during the press conference, investigators addressed the blood found at Nancy’s home, which was declared a crime scene. They were able to confirm it was her own, placing it among the many things found askew. However, they did not confirm if signs of “forced entry” were present at the 84-year-old’s house.

Authorities further indicated that additional evidence had been found, including some security device alerts. A doorbell monitor detected an individual in the early hours of February 1. However, video evidence was not immediately available due to Google’s privacy terms, which govern the Nest camera cloud.
Alleged ransom demand letters also came to the forefront of the investigation. A local CBS affiliate and TMZ claimed to have received notes requesting Bitcoin in exchange for Nancy’s return. However, NBC, Savannah’s employer, denied receiving a similar letter.
The alleged note included details about what Nancy was wearing and the damage to the house. A TMZ staffer claimed this was likely included to help “verify” the note’s authenticity. The outlet turned a copy over to law enforcement to aid in their investigation.

At the February 5 press conference, authorities addressed the ransom letters, warning of potential fakes. In fact, law enforcement confirmed they arrested one such alleged imposter.
However, they did not rule out the existence of an authentic one, simply saying it was up to the family to decide how they choose to proceed.
“We are aware of a ransom letter that was sent to the local media and then to national outlets. As with every lead, we are taking it seriously,” an FBI official, Heith Janke, said. “We are in communication with the family and, while we advise and recommend from a law enforcement perspective, any action taken on any ransom is ultimately decided by the family.”
