A man in Los Angeles was recently found dead during a bloody scene at the start of the weekend. Reportedly, the man had cut off his own genitalia at the time. Since then, police have been trying to piece together what happened.

Blood Could Be Found On The Sidewalk In Downtown Los Angeles

Police in Los Angeles reportedly received a call about a man harming himself in downtown Los Angeles, said to be near the LA Convention Center, around 3:40 AM local time. After arriving at the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department set up a white tent to help them privately study the man’s body. Reportedly, the man had been pronounced dead at the scene.

Despite this, a videographer reportedly caught footage of the scene. This allegedly included pools of blood staining the sidewalk.

Speaking with TMZ, authorities shared that the man had cut off his penis. He also sliced his throat and appeared to have stabbed himself with a sharp instrument. Reportedly, he also attempted to cut off his arm. That said, police have not released an official cause of death at this time.

As the outlet noted, it was initially unclear what the man had used to harm himself. Officers also did not know the man’s motivation. However, there had been speculation that the man was undergoing a mental health crisis. They also did not know if he was on drugs at the time. According to The New York Post, a journalist at the scene also claimed that the man could be seen walking toward a 7/11 convenience store before collapsing onto the ground.

In KTLA’s coverage of the story, the incident was said to have taken place on Saturday morning. However, other outlets described it happening on Friday night.

 

One Outlet Shared That The Story Raised Questions About ‘Public Safety & Security Measures’

A photographer, described as being with news stringer service OnSceneTV, claimed that the man “cut his penis off and bled to death.” However, police at the time didn’t elaborate on the situation. The photographer also described a large wound in the man’s groin area.

Blood could also be seen next to the clothing the man had been wearing. These clothes were reportedly found a short distance from where the man himself was found.

 

At this time, the man’s identity has not been confirmed. Reportedly, with the investigation being ongoing, the LA County Medical Examiner is working to determine who he was.

According to a statement with Los Angeles Today, it was noted, “This tragic incident highlights the need for greater mental health resources and support in the community, as well as the challenges first responders face when dealing with cases of severe self-harm. The location near the LA Convention Center also raises questions about public safety and security measures in high-traffic areas.”
