Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy, was reported missing on February 1 after a suspected kidnapping from her Tucson, Arizona home, with police finding blood evidence outside and receiving unverified ransom notes.

Savannah Guthrie is experiencing every family’s worst fear as her mother, Nancy, remains unaccounted for following a suspected abduction from her Arizona residence.
The 84-year-old was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after failing to attend her usual 11 am church service in Tucson, Arizona.
Authorities believe that the Today Show host’s mother was abducted from her residence sometime during the preceding night after sharing dinner with her other daughter, Annie.
A representative for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department disclosed on Monday that detectives suspect Nancy was “taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night.”
Adding to the disturbing circumstances, a troubling new video from NewsNation released on Tuesday revealed what appeared to be a blood trail outside Nancy’s residence, with the dark crimson stains visible on the brown tiles approaching the entrance.

Multiple news organizations have also reportedly received unconfirmed ransom demands, with one purportedly including precise details about Nancy’s clothing at the time of her disappearance – details that wouldn’t be publicly available.
Authorities have not yet identified any suspects in the disturbing case, but Brad Vinson, a Partner and leading Criminal Trial Attorney at Smith and Vinson Law Firm in Austin, TX, has a theory about who or what type of individual might be responsible for Nancy’s disappearance.
Speaking exclusively to Irish Star US, Brad addressed the potential motive behind the abduction.

He explained, “If foul play were suspected, motives would likely be personal rather than financial-such as exploitation or someone known to the individual.
“Stranger kidnappings of elderly adults are extremely rare. From a legal standpoint, investigators would first look at access and opportunity rather than public notoriety.”
He also weighed in on the circulating ransom notes, which he considers lacking credibility. “Ransom scenarios are not very common because kidnapping for ransom is high-risk and leaves a clear financial trail,” Brad noted.
He further emphasized that ransom demands typically emerge immediately following an abduction, yet in Nancy’s situation, there has been complete silence.
“Ransom demands usually surface quickly if that is the motive,” Brad stated, before adding, “The absence of communication early on usually points investigators away from ransom and toward medical or accidental scenarios initially.”
The attorney’s perspective on the case follows a press conference held on February 3 by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the FBI, where they shared additional details about their active investigation. Nanos discussed the ransom demands, specifically mentioning the communication sent to local station KOLD-TV, which called for a substantial payment in exchange for Savannah’s mother’s safe return.
The message has undergone FBI examination and been provided to the NBC personality, though investigators have yet to verify whether it’s genuine.
During other portions of the briefing, Sheriff Nanos acknowledged that authorities currently have no suspects or persons of interest and are expanding their search outward from her last confirmed whereabouts, urging residents to review doorbell and security camera recordings. Additionally, there is a $2,500 reward for anyone with information about the case.
