Who is ABC News’ new meteorologist Leslie Lopez?

Lopez had worked at ABC7 as the morning meteorologist since 2016.

In this time, she covered weather reports for the 4 am, 5 am, and 6 am newscasts across Southern California.

Before then, she spent several years at KUSI-TV in San Diego, working in multiple roles, and KGET in Bakersfield, where she served as both a reporter and a weekend weather anchor.

But now her focus will switch to her new job at ABC News, where she will appear on multiple programs and shows across the news division, like “Good Morning America”.

Leslie said: “This community has meant so much to me.

“You’ve welcomed me into your homes, trusted me through major weather moments and even shared in my life beyond the forecast.”

In her new role on the national scale, Lopez will work alongside some notable figures in ABC News’ weather unit.

Among these names are chief meteorologist and chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee, “GMA” contributor and WABC-TV weather anchor Sam Champion, and senior meteorologist and WABC-TV chief meteorologist Lee Goldberg.

Katie den Daas, ABC News senior vice president of global newsgathering, said: “Her passion for science, command of weather storytelling, and ability to connect with viewers will make her a tremendous asset to our team and to audiences across all of ABC News’ platforms.”
