Recently, Doocy spoke with Rep. Jake Auchincloss during an episode of The Sunday Briefing. At the time, the recent shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis became a topic of conversation. The fatal shooting has since inspired protests across the country.

During the episode, Doocy compared what happened to what happens when someone disregards a police officer’s orders during a traffic stop. He shared, “I imagine they would take some action against me. Is that completely off base?”

Auchincloss, who is known for serving as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts’s 4th district, disagreed. As he countered, should his car move after being stopped by officers, “Your family would be okay if you then got shot in the face three times?”

Peter Doocy’s Comments Garnered Both Criticism & Support On Social Media

Doocy replied, “No,” but he would still feel like he was going against the officer’s orders. He then asked if there was a better way of protesting beyond being in one’s car.

Auchincloss then claimed that line of thinking was “victim-blaming.” He continued, feeling that the ICE agents were at fault. He continued, “You are accountable for everything that happens and fails to happen in that operation,” when you have a “badge” and a “gun.”

With the clip being posted on X, various voices have also weighed in on the story. Some agreed with Auchincloss’ point and questioned Doocy. Others defended Doocy’s point, agreeing with his comparison. Some comments included:

  • “Auchincloss is trying to rationalize violence against law enforcement. Shame on him.”
  • “Where did Doocy get his Journalism degree from?
  • “She was told to get out of the vehicle three at least 3 separate times. As soon as her wife heard them say this, she said go baby go!! They were evading arrest.”
  • “The question isn’t about Renee Good’s behavior; it’s about how law enforcement should respond when there is no imminent threat.”
  • “This exchange is pure brain-rot theater, Auchincloss tries to jam a cartoon nightmare into the argument to shut down adult discussion, nobody said getting shot is okay, nobody said police mistakes don’t matter, but calling basic cause and effect ‘victim blaming’ is intellectual.”
