Police have provided an update on the kidnapping case involving Nancy Guthrie. Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, after she was last seen the previous evening at a family dinner.

The 84-year-old was expected to attend her regular 11 am church service in Tucson, Arizona, on Sunday, but when she failed to appear, her family became concerned.

Upon arriving at Guthrie’s residence, investigators found blood on the front door and evidence of forced entry, leading them to suspect that the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie had been abducted. Two ransom notes have been sent to media outlets, but neither the police nor the FBI has confirmed their authenticity. However, four days after her disappearance, investigators issued a distressing appeal to the public, as the mother-of-three needs her medication, without which the results could be deadly.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that the situation is becoming more alarming by the hour, grimly noting, “Time is not on our side.”

The sheriff also disclosed that officers believe Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped between 9:45 pm on Saturday and Sunday morning, after her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, dropped her off at her home in Tucson, Arizona, following a family dinner.

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects, with Sheriff Nanos stating there’s “no credible information” suggesting the 84-year-old was specifically targeted. Nevertheless, an expert has weighed in on the likely profile of the perpetrator, suggesting it’s probably a man between 30 and 45 years old.

Dr Bryanna Fox, a former FBI special agent with the agency’s Behavioral Science Unit and now a criminology professor at the University of South Florida, theorizes that the suspect is “a male between the ages of 30 and 45, who has a criminal record, is sophisticated enough to know what law enforcement is going to be looking for, and has committed a series of escalating types of crimes.”

This development follows Savannah Guthrie and her family releasing an emotional video appeal urging the abductor to bring their mother back. In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Guthrie characterized her mother as “a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light.”

With her siblings beside her, she went on, “She is funny, spunky, and clever. She has grandchildren who adore her, crowd around her, and cover her with kisses. She loves fun and adventure. She is a devoted friend. She is full of kindness and knowledge. Talk to her, and you’ll see.” Guthrie’s sister, Annie, also made an emotional plea, saying, “Mama, if you’re listening, we need you to come home. We miss you.”

The investigation is ongoing.
