Today Shakeup: Hoda Kotb Joins Savannah Guthrie As Co-Host
Hoda Kotb co-hosted the Today Show with Savannah Guthrie for seven years. They were the show’s first all-female hosting duo. They formed a close bond during their years together. However, Hoda Kotb made the decision to step away from the talk show in 2025 to spend more time with her kids and pursue other opportunities.
She returned to the Today Show as a guest to promote a few of her ventures, including her Joy 101 wellness brand. When Savannah Guthrie’s elderly mother went missing in late January, Hoda Kotb returned to the anchor desk to fill in while Savannah was in Tucson, Arizona, waiting for word about her mother.
Nancy Guthrie is still missing two months later. The police have few leads. Savannah Guthrie decided to return to her job while the authorities continue their efforts to find her mother. She sat down with Hoda Kotb for a multi-part interview the week before returning to the Today Show. Hoda Kotb was clearly a great source of comfort for Savannah during the entire ordeal.
What About Craig Melvin?
Hoda Kotb was there to fill in while Savannah Guthrie was dealing with a family crisis but she wasn’t there to welcome her friend and co-host back to the show. Fans thought that was strange but now it makes sense. Hoda Kotb is expected to reunite with Savannah Guthrie on April 13 instead. What about Craig Melvin?
The Today Show anchor made headlines this week for outing Jenna Bush Hager’s dark secret. But that isn’t why he’s off the show. “Craig, you are heading off on a very well-deserved vacation, you’ve been holding it down here for a long time,” Savannah Guthrie revealed on Thursday’s episode. She joked that a new host named Hoda would be joining her on Monday, April 13.
She was referring to Hoda Kotb, of course. Some Today Show fans took to Reddit to share their reservations about Hoda returning as co-host, even temporarily.
