This past Monday, Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts shared heartbreaking news with fans. Taking to social media, Roberts explained a recent loss that impacted her family. In response, many fans have shred their condolences with the TV personality.

Robin Roberts Shared The News On Instagram

The GMA co-host revealed that a friend on the family had passed away over the weekend. Roberts shared the news in a video shared on social media before going on-air.

As Roberts revealed, she learned that a family friend, Eric Paulsen, had passed away. She was informed of the news by her sister, Sally-Ann Roberts. At the time, the GMA host was on her way to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in New Orleans alongside her wife and goddaughter.

“Unfortunately, right before we left for the concert, my sister Sally-Ann called to let me know that a dear friend, a dear family friend, Eric Paulsen had passed away from cancer.” Paulsen was 74 at the time of his death.

As noted by Parade, Paulsen had worked with Sally-Ann in New Orleans for the CBS affiliate station WWL-TV. He had served as a top-rated anchor for the station for decades.

Roberts noted how much Paulsen meant to a lot of people. As she shared, “Eric and my sister Sally-Ann ruled morning television in New Orleans for many, many years, and there are so many heartbroken folks right now—my sister, Eric’s family, many New Orleanians.” She also offered the Morning Motivation in dedication, sharing, “This morning message is for you.”

Fans Also Shared Their Condolences

Roberts took comfort in faith during her post. As she noted, “You know one of the beauties of our Almighty is that he feels what we feel. There are times when life throws us such a blow that all we can do is weep. When you don’t think you can go on, when you feel overwhelmed, God is right there with you.”

With the post appearing on Instagram, many fans shared their condolences. One user wrote, “Sending you love and comfort through the atmosphere. Waiting for the tears of joy. Last week was tough. But today is a new day. Thank you, Robin and the team. Be well and stay safe.”

Another shared, “My condolences on your loss. Thankful for your continued positivity to start the day. Have a wonderful and blessed day.”

Some users thanked Roberts for her share as they were going through similar issues. As one user wrote, “Robin, I cannot tell you how very timely this message is. My brother in law is having some health issues and we are hoping for some answers soon. Please keep him, my sister, nephew and niece in your prayers. We serve a mighty God and I am believing He will provide answers and full healing.”
