A hot topic on The View this week was the protests against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations happening around the country. The topic is especially heated right now after the death of Renee Good after an incident with ICE in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A recent debate on the ABC talk show left fans livid, especially one host’s surprising comments. Keep reading to find out what they said and why some viewers are upset about the remarks.
The View Sends Shocking Message To Protestors
The right to protest is protected by the First Amendment in the United States Constitution. But in recent years, protests have turned into a battle between law enforcement and those protesting. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement has cracked down on deporting illegal immigrants across the country.

A citizen of Minnesota was left dead after being shot by an ICE agent. Video of the incident went viral on social media. Whether the car driven by resident Renee Good hit the ICE agent before they opened fire is hotly debated, typically along political lines.
Most of the hosts of The View are Democrats or left-leaning. However, they had a shocking take on ICE protestors. During one recent episode, Whoopi Goldberg said, “It’s every American’s right to peacefully protest, says so in the Constitution.” She posed a question to her co-hosts: “What is the line people shouldn’t cross, especially in this climate?”
The responses were not what viewers were expecting. Sunny Hostin, who is a staunch Democrat, issued a caution to protestors. “I think you can observe, I think you certainly can record in public places. You have to be peaceful and nonviolent,” she said.

The View host added, “I don’t think it’s appropriate to assault an officer, throw things at officers. You do have your freedom of speech so you can say, ‘I disagree with what you’re doing.’”
Fans Livid Over Host’s Comments About ICE
The hosts trying to “both sides” the right to protest sparked backlash among fans of the ABC talk show. One viewer blasted Sunny Hostin’s opinion, writing on social media,
- “What sunni is saying is straight up noise. Because everything she’s saying they actually are doing. So the better segment would’ve been to tell people what to do after those offenses have been committed against them. Otherwise this is just noise.”
In a separate discussion on Reddit, viewers were livid over Sunny Hostin’s thoughts on protests.
- “I think that Sunny may have gotten a call from the bosses asking her to tone down her defence of protesters.”
- “ABC must have told them to tone it down and talk about peaceful protesting. Cowards at abc news too.”
- “I thought they all got reprimanded by their bosses yesterday, that’s why they were acting so wooden today.”
- “It was corporate compliance BS. People don’t need to be pandered to about how to protest.”
Protests have increased after Renee Good’s death. The Department of Homeland Security continues to insist that the ICE agent was in fear for his life. Tell us in the comments if you think The View hosts were discouraging people from protesting.
