TODAY show regular Carson Daly was told by Masters organisers to STOP wearing a replica green jacket on air.

Daly, 52, donned a version of the famous winner’s jacket previously but he was quickly shot down.

Speaking on Thursday, April 9, Savannah Guthrie revealed how Daly had been contacted to ditch the jacket.

She said, “I miss your . . . you used to have the most wonderful, fake green Masters jacket you got from Amazon.”

And Daly responded, “I know, it was a good fake.”

Guthrie added, “And then the Masters called and said: ‘No.’”

Daly continued, “And I listened and took it off immediately.”

Respecting the competition’s iron fist for rules and regulations, Daly instead sported an off-green outfit as this year’s Masters started.

But nothing will stop him from getting use out of it away from the screen.

Daly admitted, “I do wear it at home. I know it’ll be on at 10:31am this morning when defending champion Rory McIlroy tees off today with Cam Young, who’s my horse.

“And also there’s another amateur player in that group as well. So I’ll be in it all day today.

“I should have another one for the afternoon wave. I’m gonna order another one.

In 2022, Daly showed off a knock-off version of the jacket, also drinking from a green Masters cup on set.

He wrote on Instagram at the time, “So honored to be presented with the #Masters (rented) #GreenJacket by last yrs champ @craigmelvinnbc with my @todayshow family in attendance.

“I will cherish it until I have to return it on Monday.“

Defending champ Rory McIlroy lifted the lid on just how strict the Masters really is about its cherished green jacket as well.

He told the Stick to Football podcast earlier this year, “So you’ve gotta bring it back.

“The only person that’s allowed to bring the green jacket off the premises is the champion for a year. It then stays in the club, it stays in your locker.”

He added, “There’s do’s and don’ts with it.

“You have to wear a certain shirt, a club tie, and certain trousers . . . only dress shoes, you can’t wear trainers.”

2023 winner Jon Rahm went further, explaining, “There’s a dress code that comes with it.

“You learn about this quickly when you have to sign documents and things about what you are doing.

“Obviously, we all know the rules around Augusta National, right?

“And they tell you you are representing Augusta National and the jacket is Augusta National.”

He went on, “It’s complicated.

“The jacket can’t make a public appearance without [the club] knowing.

“They don’t like to be surprised so they need to give approval for everything.

“I can’t be photographed with the jacket and having alcohol. It just goes on and on.”
