Stephen Colbert may be getting ready to say goodbye to The Late Show with his final episode rapidly approaching, but the late-night series seems ready to go out on a high note following another major win since news of its cancellation.
Since announcing in July 2025 that the show had been canceled by CBS, the late show host, 61, has not held back in the criticisms of his parent network, the company that owns it, or the Trump administration.
Now, after a recent Wicked-themed parody that took aim at the president, he has received some good news when it comes to the accolades his show has received.
The show is now a Producers Guild Award winner, taking home Outstanding Producer of Live Entertainment, Variety, Sketch, Standup & Talk Television at the February 28 awards show.
The series beat out fellow programs The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and SNL50: The Anniversary Special to take home its win.

The award comes after he also clinched a Primetime Emmy for the show in September 2025, beating out other shows at the time, including The Daily Show and Kimmel.
With the show coming to an end, a finale date set for Thursday, May 21, Colbert has grown reflective about it, including during a January appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
“It feels real now,” he said at the time, “It did not feel…I know it was real, but now, there’s four months left.”
“What I really love is the people I do it with. There are people I’ve been working with…My shoemaker, Tom Purcell, I’ve known since 1988. And so, we’ve all been together forever,” he continued.

“You can do comedy in a lot of different places. There’s no place like the Ed Sullivan Theater. But it’s really the people, that’s really what I care about. That’s really what I’ll miss more than anything. And we’ll do something else together, but it feels real now. I’m not thrilled with it.”
The show was cancelled in July 2025, just days after Colbert criticized Paramount for settling a lawsuit with the president over a 60 Minutes interview.
“Before we start the show, I want to let you know something that I found out just last night. Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending The Late Show in May, “ Colbert said at the time.
It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end of The Late Show on CBS. I’m not being replaced. This is all just going away,” he added. “And I do want to say that the folks at CBS have been great partners.

Shortly after his cancellation, the FCC, led by Brendan Carr, approved Paramount’s merger with Skydance, fueling speculation that the administration was somewhat behind the move.
Colbert has not announced if he plans to pursue a different late show format elsewhere following the Late Show’s end.
