George Clooney’s first Super Bowl ad for Grubhub aired February 8, as fans reacted, saying it’s a ‘perfect ending’ to the actor’s career.

George Clooney appeared in his first Super Bowl commercial during Super Bowl LX on February 8, starring in an ad for Grubhub.
The 30-second spot aired Sunday during the Super Bowl, and one of its most notable features was the involvement of filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos.
The commercial, titled “Grubhub Will Eat the Fees,” unfolded inside a lavish setting where formally dressed guests enjoyed a grand dinner of takeout meals. As the evening reached its peak, the “final course” arrived, being the fees.
That’s when Clooney’s character stepped in. The big game ad appeared around the same time as Emma Stone’s highly anticipated commercial.
The collaboration was designed to showcase a new benefit from Grubhub: the company eliminated delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50 as a long-term policy.

Clooney said he was “thrilled” to work with Lanthimos, describing the experience of shooting the spot as feeling similar to being on a film set and praising the director’s clear creative point of view.
Taking to Twitter, viewers of the ads voiced mixed opinions.
“George Clooney cannot be doing ‘GrubHub’ commercials,” said
Another added, “Just saw George Clooney on a GrubHub commercial. Guess that’s the only work he can get now. Go woke, go broke!”
“Just saw George Clooney on a GrubHub commercial. Guess that’s the only work he can get now. Go woke, go broke,” a third wrote.
Super Bowl commercials regularly serve as cultural touchpoints, with celebrities often lending star power to memorable ads.
This year’s Grubhub spot stood out in part because of the creative team behind it and the way it framed a familiar consumer experience.
“When I heard Yorgos Lanthimos was directing his first Super Bowl spot for Grubhub, and they called and asked me to be a part of it, I was thrilled,” Clooney told PEOPLE in an interview days before the Super Bowl.
“He’s one of my favorite directors.”
Lanthimos revealed that Clooney “treats a 30-second spot the same way he treats a film. We’re in this incredible castle with these terrific actors.
He uses his same cameraman that he shoots every film with. He has a very clear point of view, and that carried all the way through.”
