When watching Good Morning America, things look clean, modern, and very much top-of-the-line. However, that is what is seen on camera. According to some GMA staffers, things behind the scenes are in really bad shape, and it sounds like they are just getting worse as the show’s ratings drop.
Here is what you need to know about the bad conditions behind the scenes at Good Morning America.
GMA Staffers Speak Out On Bad Conditions
It seems things are not going well for the staffers at Good Morning America. In some comments from one GMA source, there is no heat at the studio where they work. The show is moving from its Upper West Side headquarters to a new building downtown.

However, things seem to be breaking down consistently at the old headquarters. Most recently, staffers have been forced to work in cold conditions as the heat has gone out in the building. With temperatures outside in the 30s and 40s this week, the staffers are not doing well with the cool working conditions.
“There’s no Wi-Fi, no heat, the antenna ripped off the building over the weekend and they’re not replacing it,” one source said (via Page Six). Another source told the site that there was still no heat and that things there are starting to smell “like crap.”
This is the same building Good Morning America has been in since the 1980s. It just seems that the entire place is breaking down. The network sold the building in 2018 for almost $1 billion, but they remained tenants while their new Hudson Square building was being worked on.
One source said there is “no reason for upkeep” with the new building, and they are now working in terrible conditions at the old building.
GMA Is Also Seeing A Major Ratings Drop
The old building has caused some poor working conditions, which hurts morale. Many people have also tuned out of the morning talk show, and ratings for GMA are down across the board.

While linear television ratings have been consistently dropping thanks to streaming, Good Morning America faces another big problem. The show has consistently lost out to The Today Show in the ratings. The news department has shown concern about the falling ratings and is trying to find a way to turn things around.
There is hope that the show’s executive producer, Simone Swink, can find a way to turn things around. “Simone is beloved. She is one of the hardest-working people in television and saved [‘GMA’] from hemorrhaging more viewers. There is no one who knows morning television better than her,” an insider said.
One hope is the new headquarters could deliver some energy. If anything, it could raise morale somewhat when everyone has moved there.
