Robin Roberts, 64 from Tuskegee, Alabama, Michael Strahan 53, from Houston, Texas, and Ginger Zee 44, from Orange, California. The three made a significant announcement during Thursday’s broadcast that they would be leaving the studio immediately after the show to participate in live coverage of the wildfires in Southern California. The coverage is a part of ABC’s “SoCal Strong” initiative, which is targeted towards raising funds for those affected by the ongoing disaster.
Strahan told the news to viewers, explaining that the three of them would join ABC’s team, which is already on the ground, to report on the fires and raise awareness. The trio will provide coverage throughout ABC News programming starting with Good Morning America. Then with World News Tonight which is hosted by Matt Gutman and Kanya Whitworth. Both teams are headed into the disaster to provide firsthand reports of the devastations. They also are trying to raise financial support for the victims of the fires.

California Wildfire Devastation
The wildfires have caused widespread destruction across Southern California. ABC News has been actively covering the crisis from afar, but they are now going in for a closer look and report. The fires are expected to have a long-term effect on the region and the families involved. Recent reports show that there have been tons of donations from across the country, with over $100 million raised through multiple GoFundMe campaigns. The campaigns were set up to assist the victims of the fire. GMA’s coverage has included stories about these fundraising efforts and how the donations are being used to support survivors, they cover these stories to show others not affected by the fires how much their support is appreciated.
ABC News plans to continue reporting on the fires for a long while. They focus on both the tragedy of the fires and the relief efforts for the victims. Individuals who want to help the victims have set up more than 1,500 GoFundMe pages in just one week. While the funds that have been raised are helpful there is still much more needed. The GoFundMe pages have been helpful but the news channels want to warn people who want to help and donate to be aware of the pages and the legitimacy of them.

The fires have been devastating and have put multiple people without anything. While it is very appreciated to donate and help the families. It is crucial to be aware of the scamming of GoFundMe pages. It is important to do research and find a legitimate page to donate to. Have you thought about donating to the fire survivors?
