Al Roker has made a career out of sharing news about the weather, even reporting right from scenes of dangerous storms. Recently, he and the Today team were impacted by a storm that hit close to home: a massive blizzard hitting the East Coast. Before this, he took the opportunity to share with fans on just how the show prepares for this kind of situation.
Al Roker Recently Shared A Few Videos Amid The Recent Northeast Storm
Roker is a meteorologist known for his work with Today. Back in 2005, he made headlines for reporting inside Hurricane Wilma.
First hitting on February 22, a powerful blizzard impacted the Northeast, stretching over 600 miles up the East Coast. Many in this part of the country endured power outages, travel bans, and state of emergency declarations.

Taking to Instagram, Al Roker posted an update ahead of Monday’s broadcast, where he shared how the Today team was planning to get ahead on the story. Leaving his home for Midtown Manhattan, he shared, “We’re going in early because they’re shutting down the New York City streets at 9 o’clock.”
Roker teased, “We’re going to have a little sleepover, the folks at the Today show. It’ll be fun.” This means other members of the Today team, including Craig Melvin, Hoda Kotb, Carson Daly, Jenna Bush Hager, and Sheinelle Jones, came in early. As previously reported, Kotb has been filling in for Savannah Guthrie, who stepped away from the show amid her mother’s disappearance earlier this month.

As Roker continued to share how the show prepares for the weather, he also expressed some praise for Mayor Zohran Mamdani. He mused, “By the way, hats off to Mayor Mamdani, saying, ‘You know what? Kids deserve a snow day, three-day weekend.’ Who knows, maybe they’ll get a four-day weekend.”
In a follow-up post, Roker also expressed, “So far, this blizzard is living up to its reputation.” During the show, the Today team marveled at the storm, which even closed down the show’s Plaza on Monday.
For her part, Dylan Dreyer reported live from Long Island. Amid the snow, she shared, “I haven’t been out like this in a storm for a long time!”
According to NBC News, over 29 inches of snow fell in Islip, New York. As the outlet noted, this unofficially set the record for the largest snowstorm since 1963, citing the National Weather Service. The previous record had been 27.8 inches, recorded in 2013. Meanwhile, 27 inches were reported at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
