In a touching new update, Michael Bolton’s daughters have shared that the iconic singer is in “very good spirits and very good health” two years after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

Bolton’s daughters, Isa, 50, and Taryn, 46, provided this hopeful news in an interview with AARP, offering fans a glimpse into their father’s journey since his diagnosis. Isa explained, “He faces challenges, and there are both good days and tough days, but in general, he’s very strong. His mobility and cognition have been fantastic. We’re in a really good place right now.”

Taryn, adding to the sentiment in an accompanying video, mentioned that their father is “generally in a really good mood and excited for the day,” despite the ups and downs.

A Tough Battle with Glioblastoma

In December 2023, Michael Bolton learned he had glioblastoma after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor. He later required a second operation to treat an infection, followed by months of radiation and chemotherapy. The 72-year-old Grammy-winning singer opened up about the year, admitting that it had “tested him in ways he never imagined,” though he feels “deeply grateful” for his progress.

Bolton’s daughters described the diagnosis as overwhelming and devastating. Glioblastoma is the deadliest and most common form of brain cancer, with a median survival rate of only nine months from diagnosis, and a survival rate of just 7% for those living more than five years. The aggressive nature of the disease makes it difficult to treat, as it spreads tentacle-like through the brain rather than forming a distinct mass.

Bolton’s early symptoms included persistent headaches, mood changes, memory issues, and a fall, which led to his initial surgery. The procedure caused what Isa described as a “significant personality change,” which at first frightened his grandchildren. Thankfully, Bolton has largely recovered his former self, continuing yoga and physical therapy as part of his ongoing rehabilitation.

Bolton’s daughters, Isa, Taryn, and Holly, 48, have become his primary caregivers. Taryn now lives with her father full-time in Westport, Connecticut, while Isa stays with him three days a week, and Holly visits once a month. Taryn spoke candidly about the emotional and physical exhaustion caregiving can bring, urging others in similar situations to take time for their own self-care as well.

While Bolton is no longer performing, his daughters say the time spent together has strengthened their family bond. Isa reflected, “He’s been home for two years, recovering. He shares every meal with one of his children or grandchildren. We’ve probably shared more meals with him in the last two years than we have our entire lives.”
