‘Jeopardy!’ Star Amy Schneider Had the Perfect Response to Claim Her Historic Win Was DEI
Famous Jeopardy! contestant Amy Schneider, who holds the record for second-longest winning streak in the show’s history, behind only the show’s current host Ken Jennings, had time to respond (in the form of shade, not a question) to an X hater on Sunday.
A user of the social media platform, formerly called Twitter, responded to one of Schneider’s posts by writing, “Was Jeopardy! champ Amy Schneider given insider help to boost DEI? Her 40-game streak raised eyebrows—did producers tip the scales? #Jeopardy #DEI.”
Following the insinuation that Schneider didn’t deserve her place in Jeopardy! history, or that her accomplishments were only due to her gender identity, Schneider shut down the line of thinking with a classy, and thorough, response.
“Ooh, I actually have direct, first-hand information regarding this question!” Schneider said. “No, I was not. You don’t have to wonder about this any more! Now you can do literally anything else with your life instead.”
Not only did Schneider’s run put her in the history books, she was also the first out trans contestant to qualify for the quiz show’s Tournament of Champions, which she won in November 2022.
In 2023, Schneider released her memoir, In the Form of a Question: The Joys and Rewards of a Curious Life. The book dealt with her religious trauma, some of the earliest media in which she felt represented, and the moments that led her to transition, including a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Earlier this summer, Schneider told CBS News that her run on Jeopardy!, which was not the result of any DEI initiatives, helped her to confront her own insecurities around her voice and her appearance.
“It really sort of forced me to get over a lot of my doubts about my self-image and about my voice and everything else,” she said. “Because I was on national television for a couple of months.”
