Savannah Guthrie’s mother has been declared missing since Sunday night, as reported by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her residence in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, on February 1 and had only celebrated her birthday days prior.

The department stated she was last seen on Saturday night, around 9.30 p.m., at her home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue.

During a press conference on Sunday night, Sheriff Nanos confirmed that search and rescue teams are currently looking for Nancy. Deputies have also reached out to local hospitals, but none in the vicinity have reported seeing her.

The sheriff confirmed that homicide detectives are also investigating the scene. While it is unclear if foul play is involved, it was emphasized that it is not being dismissed at this point, reports The Irish Star.

This is due to alarming circumstances discovered at the home, which are also under investigation by the homicide detectives.

Nanos expressed, “This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriffs out at a scene like this.”

Guthrie is described as 5’5″ tall and weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She also does not have any known mental or cognitive issues.

It is unknown what she was wearing when she disappeared and as the investigation continues, Savannah Guthrie has not yet made any public statements about her mother’s disappearance.

The community is holding out hope for a quick and safe outcome to this troubling case. Relatives and loved ones are appealing to anyone with relevant details to step forward and help law enforcement in their search.

Savannah has frequently discussed her strong bond with her mother. Nancy brought up the 54-year-old as a single parent following the death of her husband, Charles, during the Today Show host’s final year of high school.

Savannah has praised her mother in numerous interviews and appearances on the Today Show and has previously shared the story of her mom’s selfless act when Savannah was preparing to move away from home.

In a conversation with co-host Jenna Bush Hager in 2022, Savannah said, “My father died when I was entering my senior year in high school. I then lived at home all through college.

“We didn’t have the money to afford the dorm. And that was thing one, but the other was that my sister and I really felt like we should stick with my mom and not leave her alone. But when I moved to Butte, Montana, this was it. And it was really hard for me to leave her.”

Continuing, she added, “And that’s when she said, ‘If you can’t leave me, then I didn’t do my job right, Savannah.’ She just gave me permission to go, you know?”
