Jill Martin Cancer Update
Jill Martin was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in July 2023 at the young age of 48. She initially had a “clear” mammogram. But she insisted on an MRI after testing positive for the BRCA2 mutation that increases the risk of breast cancer. The Today contributor underwent grueling chemotherapy and a double mastectomy.
She was declared cancer-free but underwent an emergency procedure earlier this year due to complications from the breast cancer treatment. She had a skin graft to treat necrosis caused by the radiation. However, Jill Martin was back on the morning program after her recovery from the surgery.
Today Host Breaks Down Live On Air After Cancer Battle
Jill Martin is a regular contributor to the Today Show. She appeared on Wednesday’s show during a shopping segment. Her co-hosts took her by surprise at the end of the segment by bringing out champagne and cupcakes. “Before we go, we have a little something for you because there’s a milestone birthday,” co-anchor Laura Jarrett revealed.
Jill Martin took a glass of champagne but was overcome with emotion at the sweet gesture. Her head dropped as she momentarily sobbed. Craig Melvin moved in to comfort her. However, her tears were happy tears.
“It’s been a h*ll of a few years. So happy 50 and fabulous. Love you guys,” she told the co-hosts. She took a huge swig of champagne, causing Craig Melvin to tease, “Going to town on that champagne, aren’t ya? Good God!”
The funny moment lightened the mood for the hosts and viewers at home. The Today Show shared the clip on social media. Jill Martin received a ton of birthday wishes from fans.
