On the latest episode of The View, the panel devoted part of their discussion to Streets of Minneapolis, a new protest song by Bruce Springsteen that responds to recent violence tied to ICE operations in Minneapolis.
The panel segment began with a conversation about the recent killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two Minneapolis residents who were fatally shot during confrontations with federal immigration agents.
Good was killed by an ICE agent in early January near where George Floyd was murdered in 2020, prompting large protests and vigils in the city.
Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, was shot later the same month during a federal operation that has drawn thousands of protesters to the streets of Minneapolis and other U.S. cities.
During the discussion, co-host Whoopi Goldberg shone a light on Springsteen’s new ballad. Goldberg said, “The Streets of Minneapolis is a new protest song about what’s happening right now by artist and activist Bruce Springsteen,” before the show played a portion of the track for viewers.

The show also aired part of the song’s lyrics that address the violence in Minneapolis, including, “And there were bloody footprints / Where mercy should have stood / And two dead left to die on snow-filled streets / Alex Pretti and Renee Good.”
She also mentioned Martha Stewart as an example, explaining how Stewart spoke out about ICE after encouragement from her 14-year-old granddaughter.
Goldberg said, “The current climate has also got some celebs speaking out who usually don’t get out and speak politically.” Stewart publicly shared a message from her granddaughter urging her not to remain silent about the protests and shootings. In her statement, Stewart wrote that she was ‘disheartened and sad each and every day’ that ‘peaceful demonstrators can be attacked and even killed by Federal troops,’ and called for change ‘quickly and peacefully.’

Springsteen released his January 28 song as a direct response to the killings of Good and Pretti.
The song was written and recorded within days of Pretti’s death and was made available on his social media and streaming platforms. In a post accompanying the release, Springsteen said, “I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free,” signing the message with his name.
In the chorus he vows, “We’ll remember the names of those who died / On the streets of Minneapolis.”
Springsteen’s release came amid ongoing protests against ICE and other federal agencies in Minneapolis, where thousands have marched for anti-ICE efforts.
