Viewers recently saw Hoda Kotb make a return to Today after leaving the series last year. Since then, there has been speculation that her time might not be that brief, as insiders weigh in on the story. In addition, sources have also discussed another co-host’s future with the show.
Hoda Kotb Stepped Down From Today In January 2025
Kotb became known to many through her work with Today. Notably, she hosted the show’s fourth hour, a role she started in 2007.
Announcing plans to leave the show in 2024, Kotb’s time with Today initially came to an end in January of the following year. However, Kotb has recently returned to the show to help fill in for Savannah Guthrie, who stepped away from the show after her mother, Nancy, went missing in Arizona.
Since her return, some Today fans are wondering if Kotb’s return to the show could last a while. As previously reported, there had been speculation that Guthrie might choose not to return to the show, with many feeling she is in a good financial situation to walk away.
Recently, Rob Shuter of The National Enquirer claimed that a few inside sources have discussed Kotb’s future with Today. Reportedly, one source believes it could almost be a necessity to keep her on the share.
As the source claimed, “This isn’t just about feelings. It’s about the franchise. Morning TV is a multimillion-dollar machine. They need stability. They need a steady hand. That hand is Hoda.”
Sources Shared Whether Or Not They Think Savannah Guthrie Would Return To The Show
Another source shared, “Hoda stepping in wasn’t random. There are serious contingency conversations happening. The show can’t sit in limbo.” This has sparked further speculation from insiders that Kotb could be returning to the show.
That said, Shuter claimed that an NBC spokesperson, when asked about a full-time return for Kotb. That said, some insiders suggest otherwise.
As the outlet noted, one source claimed that the Today staff does want Savannah to return to the show. However, they also stressed that the show “is a business. And businesses make backup plans.”
Meanwhile, in addition to on his “Naughty But Nice” Substack, Shuter also shared that insiders are also claiming Savannah is hoping to return. He quoted a longtime friend who shared, “Her mom sacrificed everything so Savannah could chase this career. Walking away now would feel like letting the darkness win.” Another source claimed, “She will be back. In her mom’s honor.”
