Savannah Guthrie hasn’t been on the Today Show since February, when her elderly mother went missing. Police believe that Nancy Guthrie, 84, was kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. She still hasn’t been found two months later.

But life goes on. Savannah Guthrie returns to the NBC morning program on Monday, April 6. But she had some conditions before she would return. Keep reading to find out more about the changes viewers can expect.

NBC Increases Security Amid Savannah Guthrie’s Return

One of the first things NBC did after Savannah Guthrie’s mother went missing was to beef up security at the show’s studio in NYC. While there weren’t any threats, the alleged kidnapper’s motives did – and still do – remain unclear. Anyone could be a target.

The security hasn’t eased up in the weeks since Nancy Guthrie went missing. An insider spilled to the U.S. Sun that NBC staffers have been complaining about how difficult it is to get into the studios right now.”

However, Savannah Guthrie’s return hasn’t caused an increase in security measures because the studio has been locked down since February. Former NBC anchor Megyn Kelly called out the Today Show for demanding too much personal information about the anchors being shared with viewers.

Huge Changes She Demanded Before Coming Back

Nancy Guthrie’s strange and sudden disappearance has made headlines for weeks. The View hosts empathized with Savannah Guthrie. The Today Show host broke her silence about her mother’s kidnapping in a multi-part interview with Hoda Kotb that aired a week before her return date. Savannah Guthrie opened up about the guilt she feels about the possibility that her mom was kidnapped because of her fame. However, she felt that returning to her job was the right move at this time. But with some conditions.

An insider told the U.S. Sun that NBC wanted a whole production surrounding Savannah Guthrie’s return. They were reportedly planning yellow balloons, flowers, and even a choir. However, Savannah Guthrie reportedly shut that all down. She doesn’t want any fuss about her return. According to the insider, she wants the Today Show to briefly address her return before diving right into the day’s news. She’ll be co-hosting alongside Craig Melvin when she returns on April 6.

According to the insider, another change is that Savannah Guthrie wants to focus on real news and skip the fluffy stories. But at the same time, she doesn’t want the show to focus on her mother’s disappearance unless there’s breaking news.

“The show must go on, and Savannah is determined to lead it forward,” the insider summed up her attitude ahead of her return. Savannah Guthrie returns to the Today Show on Monday, April 6. Some viewers think it’s too soon. Share your thoughts in the comments.
