Savannah Guthrie publicly addressed reports of alleged ransom notes on Wednesday as authorities continue searching for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.

New details emerged after TMZ and CBS affiliate KOLD News reported their newsrooms received ransom notes claiming to reference the 84-year-old mother of the Today show co-anchor. The notes remain unverified as the FBI works alongside local Arizona law enforcement, officials said.

“We don’t know where she is,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said during a press conference Tuesday, February 3. He reiterated the focus of the investigation in an interview the following day. “We want to find Nancy, first and foremost. And we want to find her alive.”

On Wednesday, February 4, Savannah Guthrie posted a video message on Instagram alongside her brother and sister, thanking the public for its support as the search continues.

“On behalf of our family, we want to thank all of you for the prayers for our beloved mom, Nancy,” Guthrie said in the video. “We feel them, and we continue to believe that she feels them too.”

Members of the local community planned a candlelight vigil on Wednesday evening in Tucson to show support for the Guthrie family.

Savannah Guthrie’s brother, Camron Guthrie, was seen in Tucson for the first time since the disappearance, according to photos published by Page Six.

He was photographed arriving at the home of his sister, Annie Guthrie.

Nanos told The New York Times the case has drawn unusual attention due to Savannah Guthrie’s public profile, but stressed the investigation remains focused on locating her mother.

“She hasn’t lived here for years, but she’s part of our community,” Nanos said. “Boy, everybody watches that Today show.”

He added that the media spotlight does not change how authorities approach the case.

“The reality is, it’s another crime,” Nanos said. “We need to focus on the mission. We want to find Nancy, first and foremost. And we want to find her alive.”

According to NBC News, Savannah Guthrie also received a phone call from President Donald Trump, who reached out to express concern over her mother’s disappearance.

NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Llamas said Guthrie told the president the family needed prayers and thanked him for the efforts of local and federal authorities involved in the search.

“We also want to mention, after our interview, the president called Savannah Guthrie and spoke to her, offering words of support for her and her family as they search for her mother,” Llamas said during an NBC News special report.
