Brandi Carlile opens up about the true meaning of ‘America the Beautiful’ and describes the iconic song as a prayer ahead of her Super Bowl LX performance

Super Bowl LX promises an array of star-studded performances taking center stage Sunday night.
Headlining the entertainment is Brandi Carlile, whose global fanbase spans millions. The artist will deliver a rendition of the patriotic anthem America the Beautiful, revealing the deeply personal significance the song carries for her.
During the Super Bowl Apple Music press conference, the country star shared why this particular performance means so much and her desire to forge a connection with audiences through the music. She stated, “I think I would first of all encourage anybody to go and find the full version of America the Beautiful, the lyrics written by this brilliant woman, Catherine Lee Bates, and it reads like – and the way I would love for people to interpret the song is more of a prayer than a boast.”
The 44-year-old elaborated on the song’s universal appeal and message. “You know, this is a song about a country, a beautiful country, that ebbs and flows in terms of hope, and it’s a work in progress. And the song believes we can get there, and I believe we can get there.”
Brandi continued: “And so for that reason, I can put my whole self into that song and believe what I’m saying, and that that’s my job on Sunday.”

“The Super Bowl is a really unifying thing. It’s a big thing in this country, and all my friends and family are so excited for me getting to be an interpreter of this lyric and to be a part of this opportunity.”
The 11-time Grammy winner also opened up about the weight of expectation that comes with being part of such a monumental occasion, reports the Mirror US. She said, “So I take it like you guys do, this is heavy stuff. These are big days, and we’re being given a high honor here. What we do with it matters.”
Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny will take center stage at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, fresh off his Album of the Year triumph at the 2026 Grammys. Speculation is also mounting that Cardi B could make an appearance.

Leading up to the halftime spectacular, several significant musical performances will kick things off. Charlie Puth is slated to deliver the U.S. national anthem.
