GMA meteorologist and fan favorite Ginger Zee is sharing the details of her scary emergency landing. So, what exactly happened and is she okay, along with everyone else? Keep reading for further details on Ginger’s nightmare situation.
Ginger Zee Shares Scary Emergency Landing
As a meteorologist, Ginger Zee is put into some terrifying situations. She has been through a lot during her time on GMA, and fans may fear for her safety. Yet, this is something she loves to do and won’t give up anytime soon. She has also conquered the ballroom, performing on Season 22 of Dancing With the Stars. Along with Val Chmerkovskiy, she made it to the finals, coming in third place. Finally, she has been very candid about the highs and lows of her life. However, nothing can prepare anyone for an emergency plane landing. Flying can be scary in 2025, but Ginger still went about her life and traveled.
She explained that she was flying from New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Unfortunately, things did not go as well as she had hoped or anticipated. As soon as the plane took off, it had to make an emergency landing at another New York airport, JFK. It appears that Ginger’s plane suffered a hydraulics system failure. If something like this is not tended to, it could lead to a “loss of control, especially for flight controls, landing gear, and brakes.” Fortunately, the pilot was smart enough to land at another local airport, and they were greeted by precautionary fire trucks.
Since it happened on April 1st, 2025, Ginger Zee made it very clear that it was not an April Fool’s Joke. More so, she let her GMA followers know how grateful she was to all of the “heroes” who were right there, ready and raring to go. Ginger added a slideshow of the trucks, her in the air, and then the firefighters down below. It is an unimaginable fear, but her followers were so thankful that she was safe and sound.
A Happy Ending
After the GMA meteorologist had landed, she did not detail where she was headed or how she felt. It seemed that Ginger Zee was just grateful for quick thinking by everyone involved. Her next post showed her on the scene in Memphis, Tennessee, for extreme weather reporting. Immediately, her fans and followers were thrilled she was safe and could not imagine what she just had gone through:
- Oh my terrifying glad you’re safe
- Glad you are all safe, your crew did a great job of keeping everyone safe
- Oh I’m so glad you guys are ok! Yea to the emergency personnel!
- Glad you and everyone on the plane are safe on the ground.
- Scary stuff even if it is just precautionary. Stay safe Ginger
Someone added that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson just had the same experience. It is unclear if they were on the same plane but it was terrifying all the same. Hopefully, her return to New York goes much smoother than the initial leg.
