Michael Strahan appeared this last week on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He was there to talk about a lot of things. He was talking about Good Morning America, his daughter’s documentary about her cancer treatment, and then he spoke about his new role in life as a grandfather.
Here is what Strahan had to say about being a grandfather and how it has changed his life.
Michael Strahan On Being A Grandfather
Michael Strahan, 53, was talking to Jimmy Fallon this past week on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Most people know about his twin teenage daughters, Isabella and Sophia thanks to Isabella’s battle with brain cancer. However, he also has another daughter named Tanita, 33.
This led to Jimmy and Michael talking about the fact that Tanita just had a baby boy. Strahan is a grandfather for the first time to five-month-old Onyx. When he gets the chance, Strahan loves to talk about his first grandchild. He also said he couldn’t believe how great this was.
Strahan spoke about his grandson recently (via Hello! Magazine). He said,“Five month old baby boy named Onyx, and my daughter’s doing great, baby’s doing great. I’m extremely happy.”
Micheal then joked that he has to be careful not to emphasize his love for his grandson over that of his own kids. “You look at your grandkid…they sent me a picture earlier today, and I’m looking at him and I’m like, ‘I love you SO much.’ And then I look at pictures of my kids and I say, ‘I love YOU.’ There’s a little extra!”
Michael Strahan Enjoys The Perks Of Being A Grandfather
While raising his girls, Michael Strahan knows how hard it is to be a parent. He knows that he will be there for everything they need, and he has no problem leaving work for extended breaks to make sure that his daughters have him by their side when things go wrong.
However, Michael is glad he doesn’t have to worry about certain things anymore. As a grandfather, he knows that there are certain things he has moved past. He can always hand Onyx back to his daughter when these times arrive.
“But the grandkid, I see him, he eats, and I hold him, and he looks like he’s ready to burp and I’m like, ‘Eh, messes up your clothes, here take him back,’” Michael joked. “But it’s a different relationship, and I love it. And I cannot wait for him to grow up, to hang out and be that…younger grandpa, I hope.”
Michael said this entire experience has been incredible. After his daughter gave birth, he raced to the hospital from the Fox NFL on Sundays set to be with her.
