Viewers have recently seen CBS News undergo a number of changes since Bari Weiss was made editor-in-chief. Now, inside sources are weighing in on the situation, claiming new changes could be on the horizon. In fact, two 60 Minutes correspondents could be at risk for losing their jobs.
Bari Weiss Was Installed As Editor-In-Chief Back In October
Weiss is known for founding the media company, The Free Press. Over the years, she has worked with various outlets, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
However, in October 2025, Weiss was installed as the editor-in-chief of CBS News. This followed Paramount Skydance’s purchase of The Free Press.

After this move, viewers saw CBS News undergo something of a shakeup. Notably, this included Tony Dokoupil’s appointment as the CBS Evening News anchor in early January.
This shakeup also included various layoffs. Since then, inside sources have hinted that two other correspondents could soon see their jobs on the line.
A network insider recently shared that 60 Minutes correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Scott Pelley might be at risk for losing their jobs. Reportedly, this comes out after the two had been vocal against the changes Weiss has brought to CBS News.
The insider shared, “It’s going to be a war,” with sources allegedly comparing the situation to Game of Thrones. They continued, saying that the 60 Minutes staff doesn’t “think their s–t stinks.”
Alfonsi’s contract should be up in a few months already. However, it’s unclear at this time when Pelley’s contract will expire. Alfonsi previously criticized Weiss in an internal memo concerning a story on El Salvador’s CECOT prison getting pulled. Pelley reportedly could be at risk for commentary criticizing the network’s new leadership.
Another Source Suggested Sharyn Alfonsi & Scott Pelley Could Bide Their Time
Sources noted that Weiss will be overseeing various facets of production at the network. Notably, the executive now takes part in a Monday meeting with executive producer, Tanya Simon.
This is a change from decades past, in which the executive producer was the main person overseeing production. The insider continued, “CBS News is allergic to changes – especially ‘60 Minutes’ people.”

On the other hand, sources suggest that Alfonsi and Pelley may also plan to simply “wait out” Weiss if they can. Speaking with The New York Post, one source shared, “Everyone at CBS News knows there will be a boss every two years.” Another source, however, felt that the staffers should be careful about this strategy, noting, “Everybody has a boss and they need to realize that Bari Weiss is theirs.”
